Dr. Kirsten Oliver Veterinarian, Founder, and Owner

Dr. Kirsten Oliver

Veterinarian, Founder, and Owner

Dr. Oliver is the founder and owner of Dr. Oliver’s Veterinary Services Ltd. After practicing on Salt Spring Island and Vancouver Island for the past four years, it was time to venture out on her own. Dr. Oliver had been playing with the idea of a mobile clinic for many years. The clinic idea went from a small vaccine and wellness-based practice to a full-scale mobile clinic in the blink of an eye. Dr. Oliver wanted to be able to offer full veterinary service to some of the communities where there are no veterinary services currently available, and starting a mobile clinic allows her to do just that.

Dr. Oliver completed her veterinary training at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) at the University of Saskatchewan in 2016. Prior to attending WCVM, she completed her Bachelor of Science at Simon Fraser University, did some mitochondrial research, and started her veterinary degree at Massey University in New Zealand. Dr. Oliver has wanted to be a veterinarian on Salt Spring Island since grade two. She has dedicated her life to helping animals and their owners. She completed her fear-free training in 2019 and aims to create a stressless environment as much as possible for her clients and patients. She loves all animals but is most familiar with cats and dogs. She does treat the odd rabbit or guinea pig, though. When not practicing Veterinary Medicine, she can be found playing with her dogs, drawing, kayaking, or boating with her family.

Locum: If Dr. Oliver is on holiday or unavailable, a locum veterinarian may be able to help.

Cara Teller-Sawyer

Registered Veterinary Technician
Cara was born and raised in Vancouver and has now lived on Salt Spring Island for nearly two years. She has been visiting the island since childhood and has always felt a strong connection to its community and natural beauty, and has now chosen to make it her home.
Cara has been a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) for nine years, with seven years of experience in emergency medicine and the remainder in general practice, including veterinary telemedicine. She is passionate about all aspects of veterinary care and values the variety her role brings, from assisting in surgery and monitoring anesthesia to running diagnostics and supporting patients through critical moments. She finds it especially meaningful to be there for both animals and their people when they need it most.
At home, Cara shares her life with her two rescue dogs, Grandpa and Louie, pitbull mixes from Texas and Mexico who bring plenty of personality and joy to her day-to-day life.
In her free time, Cara enjoys an active lifestyle and likes to stay busy outside of work, whether that’s training in jiu jitsu, hiking , or spending time camping and enjoying the outdoors.

Office Manager / Receptionist
Originally from Medicine Hat, Alberta, Eva has lived on Vancouver Island since 2009. She attended the University of Victoria and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2014 with double majors in Germanic and Hispanic Studies. She speaks both German and Spanish and is qualified in translation. Eva has loved animals her whole life and has many fond memories of volunteering to walk her neighbours' dogs as a 9-year-old, cuddling barn cats (despite being allergic) at the horse stables where she and her sister took riding lessons, and begging her parents for a cat or dog (the fish and hamsters she had would not suffice). She now lives in Duncan with her husband and young daughter. They have two small dogs, Reggie and Penny, as well as a duo of African dwarf frogs, Steve and Martin. Eva dreams of one day having a hobby farm on their four-acre property with pigs, goats, and ponies.

In her spare time, Eva enjoys doing yoga, cross-stitching, sewing, gluten-free cooking and baking, and getting outside!
