Who We Are

She is thrilled to offer this service and looks forward to caring for pets throughout Salt Spring Island, the Cowichan Valley, Vancouver Island, Duncan, and the surrounding areas.

Dr. Kirsten Oliver Veterinarian, Founder, and Owner

Dr. Kirsten Oliver

Veterinarian, Founder, and Owner

Dr. Oliver is the founder and owner of Dr. Oliver’s Veterinary Services Ltd. After practicing on Salt Spring Island and Vancouver Island for the past four years, it was time to venture out on her own. Dr. Oliver had been playing with the idea of a mobile clinic for many years. The clinic idea went from a small vaccine and wellness-based practice to a full-scale mobile clinic in the blink of an eye. Dr. Oliver wanted to be able to offer full veterinary service to some of the communities where there are no veterinary services currently available, and starting a mobile clinic allows her to do just that.

Dr. Oliver completed her veterinary training at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) at the University of Saskatchewan in 2016. Prior to attending WCVM, she completed her Bachelor of Science at Simon Fraser University, did some mitochondrial research, and started her veterinary degree at Massey University in New Zealand. Dr. Oliver has wanted to be a veterinarian on Salt Spring Island since grade two. She has dedicated her life to helping animals and their owners. She completed her fear-free training in 2019 and aims to create a stressless environment as much as possible for her clients and patients. She loves all animals but is most familiar with cats and dogs. She does treat the odd rabbit or guinea pig, though. When not practicing Veterinary Medicine, she can be found playing with her dogs, drawing, kayaking, or boating with her family.

Locum: If Dr. Oliver is on holiday or unavailable, a locum veterinarian may be able to help.

Our Team

Eva Receptionist

Eva

Office Manager / Receptionist
Originally from Medicine Hat, Alberta, Eva has lived on Vancouver Island since 2009. She attended the University of Victoria and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2014 with double majors in Germanic and Hispanic Studies. She speaks both German and Spanish and is qualified in translation. Eva has loved animals her whole life and has many fond memories of volunteering to walk her neighbours' dogs as a 9-year-old, cuddling barn cats (despite being allergic) at the horse stables where she and her sister took riding lessons, and begging her parents for a cat or dog (the fish and hamsters she had would not suffice). She now lives in Duncan with her husband and young daughter. They have two small dogs, Reggie and Penny, as well as a duo of African dwarf frogs, Steve and Martin. Eva dreams of one day having a hobby farm on their four-acre property with pigs, goats, and ponies.

In her spare time, Eva enjoys doing yoga, cross-stitching, sewing, gluten-free cooking and baking, and getting outside!
Aidan Cassie Veterinary Assistant

Aidan Cassie

Veterinary Assistant
When not working with our mobile veterinary services, Aidan’s other career is as a children’s author-illustrator, creating picture books from her Salt Spring Island home studio. A passionate animal lover, her anthropomorphic characters have often been inspired by the many jobs she’s enjoyed in the past, from caring for cats and dogs as they awaited their new homes at the Saanich Pound to volunteering at the Vancouver Aquarium’s Education Centre and tending critters at Wildlife Rescue. When she’s not drawing and writing, her favorite pastime is going for walks and playing the “guess-what-the-dog-breed-mix-is” game.
Janet Kennedy, Veterinary Assistant

Janet Kennedy

Veterinary Assistant / Receptionist
Janet is a life-long animal lover with experience in caring for cats, dogs, horses, pocket pets, lizards, birds, and tropical fish. Throughout her life, she has spent many hours volunteering for animal causes both in shelters and helping with various fundraising activities, from organizing teams for the SPCA Paws in The Park to financial support for the Toronto Zoo’s Fighting Extinction program. She is a recipient of the International Fund for Animal Welfare’s Animal Action Award and, as an SPCA volunteer, she has completed the Fear Free Shelter program. In addition to being a veterinary assistant, Janet is a professional dog groomer and has owned and operated “The Dog Spot” since 2007. Janet lives on Salt Spring Island with her family including her Turkish angora cat, the magnificent Batman.
Louise Williams Receptionist

Louise Williams
